The Forgotten Carols
Nurse Constance Chamberlain is annoyed by Christmas decorating and the singing of carols as it brings back painful memories of her childhood (addiction, homelessness, abandonment). Sent by her hospital administrator to provide homecare for an eccentric and humorous old man who claims to have been around for two thousand years, The Forgotten Carols is the magical story of how she is forced to confront her difficult past. (She believes the old man is demented… but could he be an Angel?). He calls himself Uncle John and sings carols to her about “forgotten” people from the Bible that he’s met (The Innkeeper who turned away Mary & Joseph, or the Bethlehem Shepherd who fell asleep and missed everything). The uplifting songs, her revealing flashbacks to her childhood, and the characters she encounters along the way all force her to look within her heart. After several unexpected plot twists she comes to recognize that the promise of Christmas is that God gives us the hope we need to embrace life and prosper. She finally discovers and sings “her” carol!
